Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October 1964 is a prominent American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is both the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female official in the United States. She is a senator and former US senator representing California. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then hired by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was appointed district attorney of San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for health care, federal de-scheduling and legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. The attention of the nation was drawn by her outspoken examination of Trump administration officials at Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual abuse.
